Mercedes EIS / EZS Ignition Repair & Key Programming
On many Mercedes-Benz models the ignition switch is a computer: the EIS (also called EZS) reads the key, talks to the steering lock and lets the engine start. When it fails, the key won't turn, the dashboard stays dark or the key is not recognized. We diagnose the EIS at your car in Dallas–Fort Worth or Greater Orlando, repair it or replace it with a working unit programmed to your car, and program Mercedes keys on models where an independent key can be made. Some jobs need the EIS read on our bench. Some newer models can only get keys from the dealer, and we tell you first.

Questions
Why won't my Mercedes key turn in the ignition?
Common causes are a failed EIS/EZS ignition switch, a worn or damaged key, or a steering lock (ELV) problem. They look the same from the driver's seat, so we diagnose all three before replacing anything.
What does 'key not recognized' mean on a Mercedes?
It means the EIS can't read or accept the key. It can be a dead key battery, a damaged key or a failing EIS. We test the key and the EIS at your car and tell you what we found before any repair.
Can a locksmith program a Mercedes-Benz key?
On many models, yes — we read the EIS and make a key programmed to your car. Some newer Mercedes-Benz models use a key system where only the dealer can supply the key, and we tell you honestly before we drive out.
Do I need to tow my Mercedes for an EIS repair?
Often, no. Most EIS jobs we take are done at the car. Some need the EIS read on our bench and returned the same visit or a later one, so you often avoid a tow and a dealer appointment.
