BMW Key Programming at Your Car

BMW keys talk to a security module: the CAS on older models, the FEM or BDC on newer ones. To add a key, or make one when every key is lost, that module has to be read and the new key written to match it. We do BMW key programming at your car in Dallas–Fort Worth or Greater Orlando with professional programming equipment, and dealer-level software where the job needs it. Some jobs need the CAS or FEM read on our bench and returned the same visit or a later one. Some of the newest models can only get keys from the dealer — we check your VIN first.

How the job goes

  1. 01

Text the VIN or the year and model, and we check which BMW key system your car uses.

  2. 02

We confirm the price by text, then check your ID and title or registration at the car.

  3. 03

We read the CAS, FEM or BDC module, on the car or on our bench when the job needs it.

  4. 04

The new key is written, synced and tested: the start, the remote, keyless entry and the trunk.

Questions

Can you program a BMW key if I lost all my keys?

In many cases, yes. We read the CAS, FEM or BDC module and write a new key to match it, at your car or on our bench. Some of the newest BMW models can only get keys from the dealer, and we check your VIN first.

What is the CAS module on a BMW?

CAS (Car Access System) is the BMW module that stores the key data and lets the car start. On newer models that job moved into the FEM or BDC body module. A new key has to be written to match it.

Why does my BMW say key not detected?

It can be a weak key battery, a damaged key, an antenna or a fault in the CAS, FEM or BDC module. We diagnose it at the car with dealer-level software where the job needs it, and tell you what we found before any repair.

Do I need to bring my BMW to the dealer for a new key?

Often, no. Most BMW key jobs we take are done at your car, so you often avoid a tow and a dealer appointment. When a model truly needs the dealer, we tell you honestly before we drive out.
